Estonia and Latvia
A gigantic glass cross was built to commemorate the Estonian War of Independence that ran from 1918 to 1920. In 1944, the Soviet Union again occupied Estonia and this area was renamed Victory Square. Estonia regained its independence in 1991 and the name was restored once again to Freedom Square.
